Net Effect is inspired both by the ocean’s life-giving power and its plight – marine life and habitats that are endangered by discarded finishing nets. By partnering with Aquafil, a key Interface yarn supplier, these discarded fishing nets have paved the way for an inclusive business model. Interface and Aquafil developed a local reclamation system for these nets that is able to improve residents’ livelihoods by providing new community banking institutions that offer long-term solutions to poverty. These same nets account for the world’s cleanest and most abundant supply of post-consumer nylon, the same raw material as carpet yarn. Net Effect reminds NeoCon 2013 attendees that beautiful design doesn’t stop at the product, but rather extends to the story behind it.
